A.C.T.I.O.N. (Artistic, Creative, Thinkers In Our Neighborhoods)

The S.A.L.O.N. (Shining A Light On Neighborhoods) Series invites middle-school-aged (11-14 year old) students of Syracuse to an introspective arts programming, centered around written self-reflection and artistic expression. The S.A.LO.N. Series guides students to write short stories, or make art that describes their perspective, experience and viewpoint of where they live. Students are openly encouraged to express their thoughts, fears and potential ideas for change. Their stories are developed into art, writing or videos and will be showcased to the public.

History - In 2019, community leader, Rhonda Davis began the S.A.L.O.N Series with fifteen to twenty students. When the pandemic blindsided the community, Davis, with ArtHouse Collective founder Joan Farrenkopf, transformed the in-person model of S.A.L.O.N. Series into the ArtHouse Delivers Initiative. With innovation, creativity, and hope, ArtHouse Collective delivers art supplies and meals to students and their families. The S.A.L.O.N. series since COVID moved to an online forum continuing the program. In October 2020, ArtHouse safely relaunched the series to an in-person model.
